Operating primarily under the Wikov and Gmeinder brands, the Gear division designs, manufactures and services industrial gearboxes, gears and complete drive systems.


From custom-engineered solutions to standardised product lines, our equipment supports critical operations across power generation, rail transportation, mining, oil and gas, metallurgy, marine applications and other demanding industries.

Hydro division

Engineering the power of water

Represented by the Litostroj brand, the Hydro division specialises in the design, development, testing, manufacturing and servicing of hydropower turbines and related equipment for medium and large hydropower plants.


Our capabilities cover new hydropower and pumped-storage projects as well as turbine replacements, rehabilitation, modernization, capacity upgrades and long-term plant services. By combining hydraulic engineering, model testing, advanced manufacturing and commissioning expertise, we deliver integrated solutions throughout the complete project lifecycle.

  1. 1846 - first water turbine Slovenia litostroj

    1884

    The beginnings of hydropower engineering, The first water turbine is manufactured in Slovenia, marking the beginning of an engineering tradition that would later evolve into Litostroj.

  2. 1918

    The Wikov brand is bornThe Wichterle and Kovářík family businesses merge in Prostějov to form Wichterle Kovářík – Wikov. The company’s roots date back to 1878.

  3. 1922

    Water turbine production begins. Engineer F. Schireiter establishes a company in Slovenia focused on water turbine manufacturing, laying another foundation for the future Litostroj.

  4. 1946

    Wikov disappears. Litostroj is born. Following World War II, Wikov is nationalized and renamed Agrozet.

  5. Wikov

    2004

    The return of Wikov. After almost six decades, the Wikov brand returns. Martin Wichterle revives the family name and lays the foundations of the modern Wikov industrial group.

  6. litostroj hydro-lab

    2009

    A new centre for hydraulic development. A modern hydraulic research laboratory is established in Blansko, strengthening Litostroj’s capabilities in hydraulic development and model testing of water turbines.

  7. gmeinder

    2019

    Wikov strengthens its rail expertise. German gearbox manufacturer Gmeinder Getriebe becomes part of Wikov, significantly strengthening the Group’s expertise in gearboxes and drive systems for rail vehicles.

  8. Wikov Indigear

    2023

    Wikov expands globally. Wikov further expands its international presence through acquisitions in North America and the establishment of Wikov Indigear in India.

  9. 2024

    Wikov and Litostroj join forces Wikov acquires the Litostroj Group. Two strong engineering traditions – drive systems and hydropower - come together within one industrial group for the first time.

  10. 2026

    Wikov Group is born. As of 1 January 2026, the Group operates as Wikov Group, built around two strong divisions – Wikov | Gear Division and Litostroj | Hydro Division. Two engineering traditions. One shared direction.
